The Colorado Experiment

The Famous Colorado Experiment

The Colorado Experiment was a bodybuilding experiment by Arthur Jones using Nautilus equipment at the Colorado State University in May 1973.

It is of interest due to its claims that incredible results can be achieved with a small number of sessions using single sets of high intensity repetitions to momentary muscle failure focusing on negative or lowering multi-joint exercises.

Casey Viator gained 63 lbs / 28.5 kg of muscle mass in 28 days with only 12 (high-intensity) workouts, each lasting less than 30 minutes.

Remember that Viator gained 43 lbs / 15.4kg, but Jones conjectured that he lost 18 lbs / 8.1kg of fat, giving him a net lean gain of 64 lbs / 28.5 kg.

(Jones force-fed Casey Viator each day.)

Jones:

I personally examined this diary and calculated the total daily calories Casey ingested. He never ate more than 5,000 calories, and most days, he ate closer to 4,000, which is minimal considering the brutal workouts he was going through.

Heavy Duty Protocol does not personally recommend this approach to anyone. If you choose to proceed, it is entirely at your own risk. Heavy Duty Protocol is not responsible for any health effects that may result from this experiment.

This experiment is provided solely to demonstrate what the human body can naturally achieve with a carefully calculated high-calorie intake and high-intensity training.
